You will love this one, it’s hard to stop laughing………….

For those of you who have never travelled to the west, cattle guards are
horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the
roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle
from crossing over that area. (see photograph above)

For a very good reason, the cattle will not step on the "guards," or “grids”
probably because they fear getting their hooves caught between the rails.

A few months ago, Kevin Rudd received and was reading a report that there
were over 10,000 cattle guards in NSW & Queensland.  Grazier organisations
had protested Rudd’s proposed changes in grazing policies so, in a fit of
pique, he ordered the relevant Minister to fire half of the “cattle” guards
immediately!!

Before the Minister could respond and presumably try to straighten Rudd out,
Minister for Employment, Education, Sustainability and the Building
Education Revolution(BER) Julia Gillard, intervened with a request that….

“Before any “cattle” guards were fired, they must be given six months of
retraining.”

And these experienced folks are running this country, OMG!!
